What Does Grizzly Use?

This is what I use! My sister got me a set like this for Christmas last year, and that's what I've been using ever since to record my podcasts. This is my "official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time." (Jean Sheperd, "A Christmas Story") Want one? Click on the Thingie above. You'll be helping me out, too, natch.

Shownotes

I recently migrated all my Feedburner feeds over to the systems at Google.  In the process, some of the feeds got broken, in particular if you subscribed via feeds.grizzlysgrowls.com, rather than feeds.feedburner.com.  Just found out it was broken today, and that appears to be fixed now.   Tell me if there are problems.

In the process of poking around on Libsyn while researching that, I found out Libsyn had "misplaced" maybe 10 podcast files of the November episodes of Stories from the Hiber-Nation.  I re-uploaded copies from my archives, and hopefully those are all back working again.  Again, please, please tell me if you have problems.

In other news: The nice folks at the ET Seton Institute got a flash player installed in the Audio Books section on their site, playing my recordings of those two Seton books I'd recorded earlier.  Cool, huh?  They also requested one story in particular from yet another Seton book, "Lobo, the King of the Currumpaw," from "Wild Animals I Have Known."  PBS recently did an episode of "Nature" about that particular story, and the Institute had been getting a surge in traffic due to interest in that show.

I'd already recorded and posted the first part of "Flatland," no help for that.  After much uncertainty, I decided to make Hiber-Nation 48 the first part of "Wild Animals," including "Lobo."  What will happen with 49 and so on?

I can't decide what's the right thing to do about all this.  Opinions would be greatly appreciated -- put "Flatland" on hold and finish "Wild," put "Wild" on hold and finish "Flatland," or alternate between the two?  Flatland is gonna be maybe 23 shows, if I keep episodes short.  Wild would be better, I think, with each of the 8 stories complete in an episode, with one down already.  So I'm leaning toward doing "Wild" first.  But I still don't know.

Hope there hasn't been too much confusion for everybody.  We'll return to our Regularly Scheduled Programming, already in progress, some time soon now.

Thank you for your patience.

Just got to listen to an interview with me, on Big JD's "UTalkin2Me" podcast

It's an interview show with folks who do various interesting things with their time.  He did a couple recent shows with interviews with various podcasters like me, had some intelligent questions to ask.  I was (rather surprised to be) pleased with how the interview turned out , though Skype was being contrary, and the audio was pretty bad.

Didn't think I'd interview well.  But I actually sounded reasonably intelligent and articulate.  I encourage you to listen.

A while ago, in my massive amount of available free time (my 40 hour a week job just turned into a 20 hour a week job, worst-case), I went to the fridge looking for a snack.

There was a little white bunny rabbit in the Fridge.

I was confused.

"What are you doing in the Fridge?" I asked, innocently.

"Well, it's a Westinghouse, isn't it?" she responded.

I looked at the door.  Sure 'nuff.  "Yes, by golly, it is a Westinghouse.  So, what's you point, and why aren't you lunch?" I asked, slavering innocently.

"I'm 'westing."

I closed the door, and went back to my game of Civilization III.

Close the door on the Fridge.  I'm Westing.

I keep forgetting, because it doesn't get used.  But if you didn't know, there is a Yahoo Group for Grizzly's Growls, Hiber-Nation, and Life and Times.  The group is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/grizzlysgrowls/.

I think I set things up so the group receives all postings from the Blogs, including new show episodes.  Sure tried, anyway.  We'll see if it works.

Feel free to stop by.  The hope would be that you'd discuss amongst yourselves, and maybe I'd get a better idea what you'd enjoy.  Most of the podcasts have forums set up on their websites, and I'd suppose, since you stay on their websites, you spend more time looking at the ads.  I don't have any forums, just this.

Thank you for your support, and your patience.

UPDATE!!!!!

Started fiddling with things again.  So I moved a couple things around on the website, and I made one small change in the way one of the feed addresses work.  Shouldn't affect many people.

Here's the way things stand with the feeds, as of now:

Grizzly's Growls Podcast Only feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ggpo

Story-only feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/grizzlysgrowlsstory

Everything feed: http://grizzly.libsyn.com/rss OR http://feeds.feedburner.com/grizzlysgrowls

That Everything feed is the one really affected.  It used to be podcast-only, and now it's Everything.  So, if you want -only- the podcasts, you might wanna change to ggpo.

If you're currently receiving what you want, you probably don't need to change anything.  The Everything feed gets more stuff, not less, podcasts -and- stories both.

So, if you wanted Everything, you may want the Everything feed.  And you may not; using both the other feeds does the same thing (at the moment).

Also, the "Everything feed" will end up including any other new shows I start (not planning any at the moment), and may, briefly, include that experimental series I'm developing for the local non-profit.

And you never know, I might actually start new stuff.  Video's all the rage among the young people, now, ain't it?  ;-)  The web page looks a bit confusing, since that shows Everything, too.  But I'm using the tools I have.  And this is how my current tools work out.

If there's anything I haven't explained well enough, send me an email or comment on the website.

Thanks for your patience.

I had a Badge from Pod-Planet on the site for maybe a week.  When I did some searching on Google a while ago, though Google contended their site "may harm your computer."  Google seems to think they have malware on their site.  I wouldn't know.  Anyway, the Badge is gone and stays gone till someone convinces me to put it back.  Seems unlikely.

Too much crap on the web these days.  Nobody can really keep track of it.  I'm about ready to quit the whole business.
