Wed, 21 October 2009 Here's another little project I did for school. Not brilliant, but rather clever: Comments[0] |
Tue, 6 October 2009 As I may have mentioned, I'm currently in the Media Studies and Production course at Lake Superior college since August. I just today completed my second project for Video Graphics class. Came out kinda cool.Since I can, and since I haven't done a podcast in a long while, I decided to put that video out on the feed here. Dunno if anyone will see it go by. UPDATE: I finally decided running my voice audio through Levelator wasn't cheating. I'd do it for work, why not do it for school? Glad I did. Made a real improvement, I think. See ya around campus! Sun, 6 September 2009 Decided to try a Grizzly's Growls the old way I used to do it. Turned out pretty good, I think.Part 1 -- A Hell of a Thing My rant about taking a beginner's writing course -- blatantly swiped from my blog. "We Dream For Jeanne" from Spider Robinson Part 2 -- Thinking in Pictures This video stuff is very new to me, and now I'm learn to do it professionally? Yikes! A bit of story about my life in pictures. Part 3 -- Bits and Pieces I've gotten pretty good at all those little bits that get added to podcasts. There's a story behind that. "Feedback PSA" from Nobilis And Finally... Comments to 218-234-CALL, grizzly@grizzlysgrowls.com or here at the website. Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod. Closing Music: "Vampire Hotel" from Chris Kirby. Comments[2] |
Wed, 2 September 2009 Since I have 3 podcasts, you could nominate me three times! Just sayin'.

Mon, 31 August 2009 Found this on the website of someone I like and admire a lot, author
Spider Robinson. Jeanne's his wife, and they're having some tough times.------ HELP JEANNE STAY HEALTHYThis year a brilliant surgeon, Dr. Andresz Busczowski, helped Jeanne Robinson beat back a rare and virulent form of biliary cancer. But it’s so rare even he can’t say how much time he‘s bought her, how soon it might recur. For technical reasons she is not a candidate for either radiation or chemo. Her only hope for longterm survival is therefore to reboot and reinvigorate her failed immune system. She needs special therapies and meds, extensive diet and lifestyle changes, and a stress level as close to zero as possible. All those are expensive, none are covered by even Canada’s excellent medical care...and like many artists today the Robinsons were already running on fumes financially. But Jeanne, a Soto Zen monk, has been spreading love and kindness in all directions for a long time. So her Buddhist sangha in Vancouver, her neighbors on Bowen Island, and friends as far away as Florida have all spontaneously come together to raise funds to help keep her around as long as possible. Your participation is welcomed. A Bowen benefit concert, “WE DREAM FOR JEANNE,” will be held at Cates Hill Chapel at 7:30 PM on Friday Sept 18 details here; cheques may be made out to Jeanne Robinson in Trust and sent to Mountain Rain Zen Center, 6183 Fraser St. Vancouver, BC V5W 2Z9; goods or services can be donated for eBay auction by contacting Jan Schroeder at <dreamforjeanne@aol.com>, and PayPal donations can be sent to http://wedreamforjeanne.blogspot.com/. ----- I put together the attached audio from an excerpt from "Spider on the Web" # 71," Spider's own podcast. I haven't heard back from them for permission to use it this way, but I think he'll be fine with this. The music, appropriately enough, is "Eternal Hope," from Kevin MacLeod. You certainly have my permission to use this as you will and pass it along far and wide, as long as you don't mind the audio imperfections from my front-bedroom studio. I'm a poor Broadcasting student (in many senses). I hope you can help them out, though. Thanks. Griz Jeanne's Paypal account is here. Send via paypal to jeannedream@gmail.com Comments[0] |
Sun, 16 August 2009 I spent a couple hours very early this morning doing a live show with my new Birthday Present, a Behringer PodcastStudio Firewire Bundle, trying to stream over BlogTalk Radio with that. Didn't work out well. Too many stages."Tom Cruise Crazy" from Jonathan Coulton "God Is In The City" from Nicholas Howard "Re: Your Brains" from Jonathan Coulton Mentioned "The Takeover" from Mur Lafferty. Played the promo from her book, "War," the fifth book in her Heaven series. "Ain't So Bad/Radio Mix combo" from LeVar Thomas "Queen of Me" from Natalie Brown "Carry the Light" from Kelly Richey "Chiron Beta Prime" from Jonathan Coulton (I'd forgotten it's a Christmas song. Oh, well!) "Wasted (Crunk mix)" from C.B.Y.A. "Come Clean" from Chris Kirby off his "Vampire Hotel" album "We're Goin' to the Dells!" from The Great Luke Ski off The FUMP "Oh No!" from Kaiser Cartel's "March Forth" album "Lift This Fog" from Chris Kirby "Baby Got Back" from Jonathan Coulton (a bit different from the original version!) "Big Fish Lazy River" from Owen Poteat "Ain't Like We" from Shalone's self-titled CD "In My Dreams" from Natalie Brown That's all. Took me two tries to get the shownotes and file uploaded. Not a good tech-day for me, I guess. Thanks for listening! Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod Comments[1] |
Mon, 10 August 2009 Back on July 30, I ended up doing an extra-long show on BTR, because I wanted to fiddle with VAC, Virtual Audio Cable, a utility for manipulating audio inside my computer rather than using a mixer. It didn't work well enough for my purposes, but that might have been my own limited understanding. As a result, I ended up with a bit over an hour of fairly interesting talk and pleasant music. Waste not, want not. This show includes: My opinions on what it takes to make a good podcast. Kali from the "Flaws and All" show on BlogTalk Radio (@yourggkali on Twitter) had asked what I thought she could do to make her show better, and I wanted to devote some time and serious thought to giving an intelligent answer to that. Music from LeVar Thomas: "Come With Me," "Don't Give It Away," "Get You Home," "Gotta Love You," "Mean to Me" (from Hellz Yeah, featuring L.T.), "Now Get This," "Pause," "So Funky (Re-Mix with Carter)," and "What Love Feels Like" Music from Natalie Brown: "Let's Just Waste Some Time," "Love Has Finally Called My Name," and "In My Dreams" Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod Comments[0] |
Sun, 26 July 2009 Had a nice long chat with Kali (aka YourGirlKali) from the "Flaws and All" show on BlogTalkRadio, and Rhonda Carpenter of the Podioracket podcast and author of "The Mark of a Druid," about podcasting, promoting podcasts, and related self-promotion.Brief call-in from "CRC the reliever" who also has a show on BTR. Discussed recording and swapping promos with others, leaving voice comments and blog comments. Suggested K7.net, Snapvine, or Google Voice for a voice comment line. I mentioned I'd recorded a comment line reminder for the Dawn & Drew Show which has worked out for me. Noted that podcasters are generally happy to play your promo, if you're willing to promote theirs, and happy to play any voice comments (including mention of your website) that are meaningful about their content. Mentioned producing some content for the Bloodthirsty Vegetarians podcast, with the similar results. Oh, and I won a book on Podioracket earlier, by Brian Rathbone, called "The Dawning of Power." Another on-topic example, since the book giveaway was a promotional effort for Brian's book. (I look forward to reading that. And I like winning stuff. Thanks, Brian!) Brought up blogging about others' podcasts with the same idea in mind. Talked about the usefulness of Google Alerts for keeping track of what people are saying about you, good or bad. (Yahoo Alerts can serve a similar purpose.) Discussed recording audiobooks for Podiobooks.com, and how doing those had helped promote my podcasts, and vice versa. (I have five on there now, and I'm working on my sixth.) Is there such a thing as Too Much Promotion? Our take was that the key is to produce valuable content, make useful comments, add value to the podcasts you're appearing on or mentioned on, and that indirectly promotes your show(s) without getting too annoying. (In my humble opinion.) And if other podcasters do the same for you, they promote themselves without annoying your audience. Rhonda presented author Seth Harwood's appearance on PodioRacket as an example on how to promote without being "excessively annoying" (Fidonet folks will recognize that phrase). I brought up singer/songwriter Natalie Brown's appearance on my show as a similar example. I also discussed playing LeVar Thomas' and City Haze's music on my show while commenting on that on Twitter. Rhonda suggested using Ping.fm for making one post to multiple sites/accounts/outlets. That can be important when you're doing a lot of shows -- as I am, for example. And of course, producing a lot of content can help promotion in itself. While I took a break, I played a tune from City Haze called "On My Way," featuring LeVar Thomas. (See the promotion-related tie-in, right?) Since I use Skype for my BTR shows, I can also use a utility called Callburner to do separate mono recordings of each side of the Skype call, making it easy to edit, especially to add better-quality music to the shows. We also discussed editing for podcasting, and what Rhonda and I both use for that (as lots of podcasters do), Audacity -- free and effective for podcasting. You can spend more, if you like, of course. We're both happy with the latest Beta, 1.3.8, though technically 1.2.6 is the latest Stable version. I suggested voice acting as another option, though that's certainly not for everybody. (There's a Yahoo Group for voice actors, by the way.) I complained about the audio quality on BTR's archive recordings for music (though they're fine for talk, I suppose). I suggested getting a better mike. Rhonda's suggestion was a phone headset for BTR shows. I was thinking more of an inexpensive mike, and Rhonda's suggestion there was a Snowball USB mike, which can be gotten fairly cheaply. Other recommendations: "Podcasting for Dummies," by Tee Morris, Evo Terra and Chuck Tomassi. The Yahoo Group for Podcasters Leo LaPorte's TWiT podcasts, since Kali lives fairly near there, and some of the local podcasting groups in the area, including the one Matthew Wayne Selznick is in. We talked video streaming, including what Phil Rossi did for the release of his novel, "Crescent." We also discussed recording old Public Domain books as I do, and what an all-around outstanding fellow I am at doing that. I agreed humbly. :) But I gave much of the credit to my Samson Zoom H2 Handy Recorder, which is wonderful for a guy with a bassy voice like mine, and worth every penny my sister spent for my Christmas present. Thanks again to Rhonda Carpenter and Kali for talking with me so long. Lots of show notes, but it was after all a two-hour show! Category: podcasts -- posted at: 1:00 AM Comments[0] |

Sun, 12 July 2009 From my live BTR discussion with Martin Waxman of Palette PR and the "Inside PR" podcast. We focused on how PR techniques can be useful for Regular Folks, not just big companies, major celebrities, politicians and religious leaders; some are, for example, useful in job hunting (which I'm trying to do), and promoting podcasts (which you may have noticed I'm also trying to accomplish).Bottom line it's about (1) building relationships with the media, and (2) your story -- determining what it is, how best to explain it to reporters et. al., and why it's news. Martin seemed to think my show having listeners in 80 countries or so (assuming I'm understanding Google Analytics) is news. He gave me some pointers for dealing with local newspaper reporters, and possibly radio. And I made some excellent points about web page SEO, newspaper writing, and press releases, doncha think? We also talked about: Social Media Releases; Shel Holtz' recent helpful blogpost on that topic; Todd Defren's design of the format; Canada Newswire and PR Newswire, that distribute them; being patient with reporters, especially about deadlines; and the importance of research, followups and thinking long-term. Takeaways: Building relationships, and knowing why your story is a story. And I really oughta work harder at promoting my podcasts. Thanks, Martin, for devoting a half-hour of your Sunday to this important topic. And I have listeners in 88 cities, in 19 countries. Oops. Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[0] |

Sun, 21 June 2009 ![]() AMAZON: Random Thoughts Here's that interview with Natalie Brown I promised you. I noticed I had been shortchanging the folks on the Grizzly's Growls Podcast Only feed. The interview was at the end of my last live "The IDSL" show. Natalie Brown Music included: "You Make Me Feel" from her "Let The Candle Burn" album "Around the World" from her "Random Thoughts" and ended with "You're Mysterious" from "Random Thoughts." The full "The IDSL" including the interview will be included in the IDSL High Quality feed, when I get that together. Thanks for listening! Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod. Wed, 17 June 2009 Part 2 of 2 of the 06/14/09 Live show. Finally got connected to Shawno ("Hypernonsense," "Shawnogram") on Skype -- which is when all that technology when to hell... There's a whole lotta cussin' edited out of this version, believe me. And I got stuck with the BTR recording for this part, which is lower-quality than my Callburner recording had been. Sorry about that; replaced all the music with originals, though, so that sounds better. Got very depressed with the tech failures. But part of the problem was my misunderstanding what BTR does and doesn't do. I could have fixed the call as easily as I broke it. It wasn't as broken as I thought it was. Music: Levar Thomas - "Can't Hide From Love" Talked to Shawno about doing live shows on UStream, commiserating about my troubles that day. Talked about Livestream.com, which is newer with more features. Dr. Normal and Cami Kaos use that for "StrangeLove Live." I obsess some more about Callburner failure. Talked about the technical aspects of recording from Skype -- which is pretty much always hard for everybody. Music: Levar Thomas - "Missing You" Discussed some of the complexities of domain names, and the differences in the way "Talkshoe" works, or worked. Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod. Wed, 17 June 2009 I am a very lucky guy.I get to interview Natalie Brown, on my live show on BlogTalk Radio. The interview is supposed to be this Sunday at Noon Central. And I admit, I'm really nervous about it. This is a Big Deal. According to Wikipedia, "Natalie Brown is a Canadian-born, contemporary R&B, pop and Blue-eyed soul singer-songwriter," active in the industry since about 2000. She's got her second album, "Random Thoughts," out now. I'm listening to her music while I type this, and she's amazing. Watched an interview with Tina Louise, and she said "Natalie Brown is awesome!" Tina Louise! I mean, c'mon! Now I gotta think up questions and whatnot, like interviewers do. Remarkable, the things I do these days... ;-) Griz Category: podcasts -- posted at: 4:23 AM Comments[0] |
Wed, 17 June 2009 I just started a daily music show on BlogTalk Radio called "The IDSL." For those of you who have listened to the Grizzly's Growls podcasts for a while, you'll be familiar with my "It Doesn't Suck List," which I use to pick music to play at the end of the show. What with all the fiddling I've been doing with live shows on BTR, I have not been keeping up on the IDSL, and I wanted to catch up. And then I thought, "Well, I could certainly set up a daily show on BTR to play those... hey, wait a minute!" So I'm doing that daily show, with five selections for each show, and me trying to sound like a DJ -- doing rather well at that, actually. Since I'm already producing the show and playing the music, and since Callburner has been behaving a bit better when I jump through enough hoops, I decided to take the Callburner audio, and modify that appropriately, replacing the BTR copies of the songs with fresh audio from the original MP3s. So I get the feel of the 30-minute live show, and any call-ins (if I get any), and the audio quality is high enough to post as a new show in the Feeds. Even created an IDSL feed on Feedburner. But... I'm currently out of space at Libsyn! With all the new shows, I just don't have room for another show yet. After the 18th, my oldest non-archived file gets archived, and I'll start having space again. But I'm getting really impatient... maybe I can squeeze just one more in? If y'all wanted to help out there, donations would go to (1) paying the existing Libsyn bill, (2) possibly expanding my space on Libsyn, and (3) beer, cigarettes and wild women! Probably in that order. Probably. I am supposed to be a Minor, Local Celebrity, after all, and one must keep up appearances. Thanks! Griz Category: podcasts -- posted at: 12:08 AM Comments[0] |
Tue, 16 June 2009 Part one, the first hour of last Sunday's live show. I had some technical difficulties after the first hour, but this part came out really clear, with Callburner doing the recording, and a whole bunch of editing.Talked for a while about the swell deal I got at a nearby Rummage Sale: a Kodak Easy Share CX6200 and the original Kodak Easy Share printer dock, both in a box for $10. Cool, huh? Music: Levar Thomas - "Ain't All Bad" and "Ain't All Bad Radio Mix." Really like this tune, and it's got a really positive message. I liked the way the two versions worked together, so I ended up editing them into one, long piece. Hope he doesn't mind. Thanks, Levar! Tried to talk to Jen from "Inside My Head" on the show, but couldn't get the audio on her end to work correctly. This whole process, not Jen's fault, was what produced the escalating chaos later in the show. Sometimes I think doing a call-in show is a mistake, once I got good on the regular podcast. But if you don't challenge yourself, you never learn anything. Announced the last episode of "Flatland" is up on Podiobooks.com -- and it's also out there at the end of the Hiber-Nation feed, too, awaiting you. Finally got connected with Jen (aka "Queen of Haiku" on Twitter). She had some nice things to say about Levar's music (and I kept obsessing about the technical stuff). Got to play with my new Rejoiner for the show, too. (Still having problems understanding her on the Click to Talk connection; had a horrible AC hum, which I edited out For Your Listening Pleasure.) Talked a bit about Jen & Shawno having their experimented with live shows for their "Hypernonsense" podcast, the one they do together. Discussed the upcoming interview with Natalie Brown this coming Sunday. Music: Natalie Brown - "Hold Your Head Up High" Jen called back in on Skype, and it worked properly. FINALLY! But we had more technical difficulties with picky BTR stuff. But at least I could finally hear her okay... More discussion of live shows, UStream, All Things Azeroth. I've come to the conclusion I start having problems when I start getting call-ins. Which is a bad sign for doing a call-in show, now ain't it? Discussed Jen's experiences (she's a teacher) with Swine Flu, or not Swine Flu. I get all Scientific-sounding. Talked about "ReGenesis," this show I watch(ed) on Hulu. Wonder if it's still being produced? And did they jump the shark? And talked about "Castle," with Nathan Fillion starring. Looking forward to that being on Hulu, too! AND THEN I foolishly took a moment to play some music & get more coffee, and broke stuff again... Music: Natalie Brown - "You're Mysterious" ... and off to part 2 of 2, dropping tomorrow... Wed, 10 June 2009 Part 4 of my live show on BTR this last Sunday Discussed something called OTS with Violet Light, and some other technical BTR stuff Chatted with Robert aka Eareverence, who's been making the rounds of BTR shows I leapt to the defense of Disco, and reminisced about learning to talk by listening to an AM radio in my sleep I bragged at length about my Samson Zoom H2 Handy Recorder We discussed Desert Rose's show being streamed on Fox, and her participating in a record attempt at having the most interviews in one day, to promote a book Discussed Eareverence's upcoming show on BTR Meredith from Braindouche! finally got to call in, and we talked briefly, but then we ran out of Streaming time. We talked a bit more in the After Hours segment you'll hear on Friday. I've come to the conclusion I don't do well with too many people on the show at once. I think a new rule will be only one caller on live at a time, unless there's a compelling reason to talk to a particular group all together. The big PR show was an example of a "compelling reason." They were all invited guests, and all PR podcasters, talking about PR and podcasting. Naturally, if I have an Invited Guest, that means one Caller at a time with a question for the Guest. Or maybe none, if that's what's comfortable for me. Make sense? For you longtime listeners to the regular show, I hope at least the new format hasn't been too disruptive for you. I hope I'm learning and getting better at doing a live show. And you're welcome to call in on Sunday and become part of the show yourself. Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[0] |

Tue, 2 June 2009 Starting next week: I'll be recording Grizzly's Growls LIVE on BlogTalkRadio, at noon CST each Sunday.Part 1 Discussion of Episode 100, again. Part 2 Up at Mom's in Silver Bay for the past week. Didn't record there, though. A new Flash Fiction piece from Randall Head, coming next on Stories from the Hiber-Nation. Part 3 Mur Lafferty's coming out with the fifth and last book in her "Heaven" series, entitled "War." (I said sixth. Oops.) Played the Promo. Part 4 I actually got permission to use a performance of Mouret's "Rondo" from "Gossamer Winds," a wind quintet out of Denver Colorado. Thought I might use that as new theme music for "Hiber-Nation." And I might not; I do like Owen Poteat's performance of Pachelbel's "Canon in D." Tell me what you think! From Devo Spice of The FUMP: "Getting Old Sucks!" Part 5 More talk about alla my books on Podiobooks.com. "Flatland" was until recently one of the Podiobooks Top 10, measured by the number of new subscriptions in the previous 30 days. Isn't today, though. Oh, well. And Finally... Ongoing and Upcoming: Flatland on Hiber-Nation and Podiobooks. Randall's Flash Fiction piece on Hiber-Nation. A brief appearance on PodioRacket. A couple of lines on Kimi Alexandre's "Guardians." An upcoming role as the villain in an episode of Darker Projects "Tales from the Museum" series. And probably a bunch of stuff I've forgotten! Wed, 1 April 2009 I like to watch NASCAR racing, but I only understand parts of it. Up till the late 1990's, NASCAR had a rule, when there was an accident and the yellow flag went out, crashed cars on the track, busted tires & car parts & smoke & flames everywhere, the cars were supposed to "race to the line," dodging alla that junk on the track, to have a good position when the race restarted. A few years back, they made a new rule. The officials would decide in what order people would line up under the yellow, and no one would race to the line. But one guy would get moved up to the very tail end of the lead lap. "The Lucky Dog." I started listening to podcasts in 2006. I listened to practically every podcast I could find. I started thinking, "I could do that!" So I started my own podcast, in February 2007. Joe Murphy died of leiomyosarcoma on April 1st, 2007. I honestly don't know if I ever heard the podcasts Joe was on, but I have this vague memory I just might have. I listened to lots of podcasts. Or, honestly, I might not. I didn't get the chance to meet him. But the folks who went ahead of me, folks I've come to like, admire, and trust, liked, admired, and trusted Joe. He's one of those who made this community what it is. He's worth remembering. Podcasting isn't about the microphones, the computers, the software, the talk, the music, the time, or the money. It's about the people. And a whole lot of people took a chance on trying this new podcasting stuff, and even regular guys like Joe got a chance to speak. Even a regular guy like me. I got to tag along on the tail end of the lead lap. I'm the Lucky Dog. So yeah, I remember Joe. Even so. But listen to them other folks. They tell it better. Comments[0] |

Fri, 13 March 2009 Just thought I'd let you know, at the end of the month, my reading of "Wild Animals I Have Known" by Ernest Thompson Seton will be available on Podiobooks.com. Yes, I know, I'm jumping the gun a bit. But (a) I'm proud of how the audiobook turned out, and (b) I'm rather proud of how the promo turned out, too. So I wanted to share that with you now.The official release date on Podiobooks.com will be 3/31/2009 -- which happens to be my Mom's birthday. Being unemployed (along with the rest of the world), I'll be hard put to buy anything for her, but this, I can do. Heck, she likes audio books. "Look Mommie, I made it myself -- and didn't use any macaroni or glue!" Hope you enjoy the promo. And given you'll be getting this on Friday the 13th.... Listen Carefully! Griz Comments[0] |
Wed, 11 March 2009 Forgot to mention, I now have "A Handy Guide for Beggars," by Vachel Lindsay, available on Podiobooks.com. I went back through all those files I'd recorded for Hiber-Nation, and did the necessary editing to fit them to the Podiobooks standards. So no, they don't sound any better than they did, but you can use the Personalized Feed mechanism to get the book sent episode-by-episode from beginning to end.So if you liked the book, you could recommend the Podiobooks feed to your friends. For example. I'm just sayin'. I've attached the promo for "Beggars" to the feed, so you'll have a copy you could share, or play on your podcast, if ya wanna. I'd appreciate that. Thanks! Mon, 9 March 2009 K7 Comment Line: 206-350-6909Back in Episode 56, I did that J Proctor Knott speech that in 1871 made Duluth one of the best-known cities in the country -- for a little while, anyway. I really liked the way the speech turned out, mostly. But I didn't like the way that show turned out. Didn't like the music, didn't like the audio quality, the flaws kept picking at me. So tonight I opened up Episode 56, re-edited it and cleaned it up a bit. And here it is. I liked it enough that I thought it worthwhile to get it as good as possible. Still not perfect, but a lot better, I think. If you missed it the first time, or even if not, I hope you like this version. Thanks for your patience with my perfectionism. Comments[0] |

Mon, 6 October 2008 When I uploaded Episode 69 this morning, I used the wrong filename, and managed to overwrite Epsode 68. And of course, I'd neglected to archive a copy of that episode on my laptop here, so I have nothing from which to recover it. Anybody still got a copy of grizz068.mp3, the last show from September? The file on the website right now is the one overwritten by grizz069.mp3. If you've got a copy, I'd appreciate getting it back. Thanks. Sigh. Tue, 15 July 2008 Spent the weekend trying to get this done, and Hiber-Nation done, and what did I accomplish? Sun, 6 July 2008 As Janis Joplin put it, "Why sleep? Might miss a party!"Part 1 -- The Leopard and the Ethiopian Okay, this classic, old book has the N-word in it. So that's the way I'll read it. Oh, well. Part 2 -- Excuse the Mess Three blogs, two podcasts, six RSS feeds ... Getting overwhelmed by too many media options, and confusing everybody else, too. Featured: "Human Beat" from Kevin MacLeod -- yes, that Kevin MacLeod. Part 3 -- So, What Else is New? Getting interviewed for "UTalkin2Me" podcast. Sounding arrogant, maybe? IDSL Feature: "64 Chevy" from Chavi. Themes: "140 Times from Bob Baldwin, "Continue Life" from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[0] |

Yes, another one. from "Harry's Fight" (OA2 Records) Part 2 -- Jocose, Bellicose, Lachrymose, Comatose The four stages of intoxication, and why you shouldn't be bothered. from "Harry's Fight" (OA2 Records) Part 3 -- I shoulda known better Discussing politics and religion on alt.callahans. And why I like it there anyway. And how I managed to shamelessly plug Mur Lafferty's "Heaven" series. Part 4 -- I'm out What, you wanted more Actual Content? from "Harry's Fight" (OA2 Records) Themes "Hot Swing" and "Continue Life" from Kevin MacLeod, and "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin. Comments[0] |
Mon, 23 June 2008 NEW AND IMPROVED! Now includes an audio file with Actual Audio Inside! (Which the originally posted copy didn't. Sorry about that, 3 in the morning...)Part 1 -- Fans and Friends. Twittering. A rescue from being stranded, via Twitter & Skype. Possible interviews. Probably no more Stickam. Part 2 -- Back to Work Going from part time to full time, for a while. Changing jobs, changing schedules, changing sucks! Part 3 -- The Arwen My review of "The Arwen," by Tim Callahan, found on Podiobooks.com. Ditto for Arwen 2. Part 4 -- De Gustibus Non Disputantem Est The new "Hiber-Nation" stories show is going fairly well. A number of folks listen regularly. And I'm enjoying doing it. Thu, 19 June 2008 Amazon:
Just heard on Twitter from Mur Lafferty that her book "Playing for Keeps," that I reviewed a couple shows back, is going to be released on Amazon.com on August 25. Congrats, Mur! Doesn't seem to be a pre-ordering link there on Amazon, yet. I'll add a link to the book, to my site's widget as soon as I can. Category: podcasts -- posted at: 2:03 PM Comments[0] |
Mon, 16 June 2008 By the way, if you're a Garageband artist that's going to be on an upcoming show, it wouldn't be impossible to set up a live show on Stickam, and do an on-the-fly (more or less) interview regarding your music. But maybe that's just me; I gather publicity is a good thing. If you want more people to know about you and your music, make sure I know that, and I'll set up a feed, assuming I can figure out all the different software I have to use. Hey, I'm a stranger here myself! Category: podcasts -- posted at: 9:33 PM Comments[0] |
Sun, 15 June 2008 Part 1 -- A Little Too LiveTried starting a Live Feed on Stickam with the guys from the 535 York podcast, without knowing what I was doing, and ended up with a mob scene. All my own fault. IDSL: Rich B Tracks -- 4 Minutes of Electro Part 2 -- A Long Way from Disney Review of Seth Harwood's so-named short story collections on Podiobooks.com. With the Promo. IDSL: The Kissing Farries -- 420 Depletion (So, what the heck is a 420?) Part 3 -- Paper or Plastic? It seems I might end up doing some job hunting. Not a good activity. Nobilis' PSA IDSL: Trout -- 45 Themes: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, "Continue Life" from Kevin MacLeod Comments[1] |
Sun, 8 June 2008 Very little Karaoke, mostly a podcast about the podcast. And pretty young blond ladies.Part 1 -- Comments and Responses A PSA from Nobilis, about feedback on podcasts. A little pathetic whining by me in agreement. Seth Harwood's visit. Mentioned the "Aspie Quiz," which come to think of it, I -didn't- mention on the last show. Part 2 -- Amazing Times Talk about many, many downloads (194 so far!!), and hitting the top of Society podcasts at Podcast Pickle -- which lasted a day. Turns out the NPR Show, "Talk of the Nation," the only more popular show in the genre, is a two hour show. And they podcast the first and second hours as separate episodes. So they get twice as many downloads per actual show they do. Hard to compete on the math alone. A brief Tune about Barack Obama from TR Kelley and the Raventones. Part 3 -- Books and Bills A few new things I did to become a shameless, wealthy podcasting profiteer, namely the Amazon Affiliate stuff I added (including links to all the books I've reviewed that are now available on Amazon.com. Going to add the music, too, where available). Not wealthy yet, though. Part 4 -- Almost Cut My Hair Hair's getting big and shaggy. Sang part of the David Crosby song. Sorry about that. Maybe a crewcut would be nice for the summer? How about losing the gray beard, too? And job hunting, probably. From the It Doesn't Suck list, "40th Floor" from American Gypsy. Themes: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, and "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[1] |
Mon, 2 June 2008 Part 1 -- The Soul of a New MachineMy new Dell laptop, which is why I didn't manage a show last weekend. Part 2 -- Everybody Knows That My confused ramblings on "Theory of Mind." Part 3 -- That Vision Thing Reviews of Seth Harwood's "Jack Palms 3," and Alan David Justice' "Communion of the Saint," with the promo for the latter. Part 4 -- Bear With Me The new "Stories of the Hiber-Nation" feed, with comments on comments from an Ernest Thompson Seton website. Part 5 -- Sixty, Sixty, Sixty! This is Episode 60, but not my 60th episode, really. It Doesn't Suck List: "3:1", from Jared J Stulen of Minneapolis MN. Themes: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, and "Continue Life" from Kevin MacLeod. Sun, 1 June 2008 In case any of you have wondered where I got the idea I have Asperger Syndrome, attached are the results of an online "Aspie Quiz" I took today. Don't know the specific authority of the quiz, but the questions are the ones usually answered anyway. There are a couple of other worthwhile quizzes online, also. Not like my answers are liable to be a secret anyway; I've talked enough about this stuff on the show, now haven't I? Comments[1] |
Thu, 22 May 2008 By the way, finally got the Story feed, "Stories from the Hiber-Nation," started. Dunno if any of y'all had been looking for that. It's on a separate feed, so you wouldn't see it in the regular stuff.Opinions on making it all a combined feed again? Not sure if I can at the moment; I'm currently working on a special project that requires some separation. But for future reference... Category: podcasts -- posted at: 5:30 PM Comments[0] |
Mon, 19 May 2008 I had three different podcasts to finish this weekend. I finished one, barely. And that was a bigger accomplishment than you might expect.Part 1 -- The Dog Ate My Podcast One of the "joys" of ASD is what's called Executive Dysfunction. I want to get it done, I know I can do it well, I understand exactly what to do ... but I can't take that first step. It can seem similar to a lot of things, but it ain't. That first step is a doozy! Part 2 -- Playing for Keeps My review of Mur Lafferty's audiobook, "Playing for Keeps." Definitely worth listening to. Part 3 -- Sorry About That My apologies for letting you down. Again. I'll get 'em done soon. Probably. I hope. Themes "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod. IDSL: "35-494" from Howlround, out of Redwing MN. Comments[0] |
Mon, 12 May 2008 People believe all kinds of things, mostly because other people believe them, too. And then there's the fish.Part 1 - From the Preface "Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds," by Charles Mackay. Part 2 - Fish is Brain Food -- Isn't it? Part 3 - It Gets Worse -- Autism and Fish Part 4 - This is Life -- Seth Harwood's book, Jack Palms II. Part 5 - Stories? Where's my Stories? -- No, really, they're coming soon. IDSL -- Joel Johnson, "3 Seconds." Themes: 140 Times from Bob Baldwin, Sovereign from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[2] |
Sun, 4 May 2008 Probably the most brilliant podcast ever recorded. Not. But busy, busy, busy! Still limping, but more quickly now. And soon to be a member of A.A.R.P. (sigh)Part 1 - Ingredients What alla them extra coffee cups are for. Part 2 - Jack Wakes Up My review of Seth Harwood's Podiobook novel. Not the new one, his first, that everyone's already heard. But I liked it. Part 3 - History A recap of the flurry of activity around Episode 56, "Duluth!" especially on PerfectDuluthDay. The fun discussion of Episode 55, "Grizzly Goes Wild!" MySpace URLs. Cameras. A voice comment from Matt Selznick, and a promo for his re-started podcast, "Sonitotum." IDSL feature, "3" from "Conditioned Response." Themes: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin, and "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[2] |
Sun, 27 April 2008 The famous J Proctor Knott speech about Duluth, Minnesota, my home town. I sprained my ankle the other day, hadn't listened to any new audio books, and already had this handy for C.T. under previous plans. Here's links to the original speech: from somebody's website, and from the Congressional Globe, the official source from those days. IDSL Feature: "34 Miles" from Mark Throne and the Fingerprints. Who is it this guy sounds like? Theme "140 Times" from Rock On. Sorry about the pops and what-not. Lost that little foam rubber thingie goes over my Samson Zoom H2. Wonder if I can buy another one somewhere? Might have to make my own. Comments[1] |
Sun, 20 April 2008 A little strange, as my shows go.Part 1 - Interview with Alicia after she won a contest sponsored by "Girls Gone Wild." Was kind of a surprise to me, too! Part 2 - The rest of the show, recorded with K.M.A. Karaoke DJ Jon B and the rest of the regulars, after Friday night Karaoke at the Androy. Includes my first unfavorable Podiobook review, of Tracy Hickman's "The Immortals." Given the book's been out for ten years, and Tracy Hickman is a bestselling author, I doubt his career will be significantly effected. ;-) Included the promo, by the way. IDSL feature: "2nd Sunday" from Ryan Weddle Protocol. NEW THEME MUSIC: "140 Times" from Bob Baldwin & Rock On. Comments[6] |
Mon, 14 April 2008 I just found out there's a way to have two separate feeds without creating a whole 'nother feed via a separate blog. Turns out I was already creating a separate feed, I just didn't know it. It's a Libsyn feature. Go figure. So, I changed the Feedburner feed around a bit. The usual, http://feeds.feedburner.com/grizzlysgrowls has the usual feed except for the story episodes. http://feeds.feedburner.com/grizzlysgrowlsstory (note the double S) has only those story episodes. All posts in both categories will show up on the Website as usual. So, as it turns out, I will not be using Changeling Turkey for stories. For what, I dunno, but not for that. Hope this doesn't confuse things even further.... Category: podcasts -- posted at: 12:24 AM Comments[0] |
Sat, 12 April 2008 Part 1 -- So How About That Weather?Self-explanatory, right? Part 2 -- Morevi My utterly unnecessary review of the original "Morevi: The Chronicles of Rafe and Askana." They're doing a remastered version now, but I wanted to get the review done, so... Part 3 -- Under Construction Tinkering with Changeling Turkey, Facebook, and Twitter. Too many distractions, but it's kinda fun. "It Doesn't Suck" list: A tune from Charlie Ray Glasgow of 10 States, Minnesota called "2nd Hand Heart." Theme music still from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[3] |
Sat, 5 April 2008 Part 1 -- I Smoke WrongI've smoked for 24 years, two packs a day, and I'm apparently not addicted to nicotine. Go figure. Part 2 -- Wasteland My review of "Wasteland," the latest book/season in Mur Lafferty's "Heaven" podcast novel series on Podiobooks.com. Had to kinda review the whole series to make sense of it, though. Part 3 -- Drunks & Crazy People I take a long walk home. Twice. From the "It Doesn't Suck" List: Featuring "20 Years" from Shaan Sharma, out of Minneapolis Minnesota. One of the prettiest Alternative Rock songs I've heard a long time. Themes are still from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[2] |
Sun, 23 March 2008 Part 1 -- Employment Wanted I've been thinking about work. I'm a telemarketer, and for me, that's a special sort of hell. Part 2 -- Silly Me As I've mentioned, I can't always tell if people are kidding me. Contrary to the impressions some people have, that doesn't mean I'm stupid. Just a bit trusting maybe, and often confused, certainly. But not stupid. Part 3 -- Strange Days Indeed At Champs, people behaved very strangely to me. I didn't get angry or upset about it. It just slid off me, like water off a ducks back, as they say. And a little bit at the end about money. Featured from the iDSL: "20 Degrees" from Jeb Nome, on Garage Band. Theme music from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[2] |
Mon, 17 March 2008 Just a little news: On Podcast Pickle, "The Original Podcast and Vidcast Community," of 9167 podcasts listed:Grizzly's Growls is 57th of the Top 100 Podcasts; 54th of the Top 100 Audio Podcasts; and 2nd in the Society category (behind NPR, but they -are- NPR, after all). Cool, huh? I owe it all to you, my loyal fans, and my new fans, and my fans who accidentally clicked on the wrong thing in their podcast feeder and can't figure out how to delete my silly little program. Thank you! I have no idea how I rate in iTunes; I still use Win98SE, so I can't download the iTunes software, so I can't even look at iTunes. Hope one of you can tell me. And there are, naturally, a whole bunch of other feed aggregators, and I dunno how I do on their systems. Next week, I might be 937th. But this week is a Good Week! Sun, 16 March 2008 Part 1 -- A Little Too Big a Celebrity -- Trying to hear people talking to me in noisy places, including the drunk guy who said something about a "stalker." Part 2 -- Chow Time -- The wine tasting at Champs, and karaoke again. Meeting another pretty girl. Ah, the life of a star. Part 3 -- The Geek in the Corner -- playing with my computer in bars, or reading. Unusual, but it's something to do. IDSL Feature, "2 Step" from "$Muny Getta$" on Garageband. Theme Music from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[0] |
Mon, 10 March 2008 I did have a great plan. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten one important factor. Oh, well. Did manage to do two interviews. Toady, the Karaoke DJ from Champs, and a young fella named Mike. What's Karaoke like for a guy who can't stand noise or crowds much? My review of "Billibub Baddings and the Case of the Singing Sword," by Tee Morris. A hard-boiled detective novel, with a little sex, violence, magic, gangsters, gals, and guns. And it appears, sequels. Which is a very good thing. Featuring "Get Good and Gone," from Owen Poteat -- Get well soon. And "2 of 7" from "Company Incorporated," which Doesn't Suck. Too bad the Big 50 Plan didn't work out. Maybe next year? Theme music from Kevin MacLeod. (But watch this space...) Comments[2] |
Mon, 25 February 2008 I've been hearing from old friends from Blackthorne Repertory Theatre lately, which is pretty cool. Amazing how this Internet search stuff works. Didn't know anybody'd even be searching, much less finding such stuff. Got my first donation today! So now the show is officially "Sponsored by Donations from People Like You," just like the big guys. And, while I'd somewhat lost heart, I'm told my show "has heart," even though I still don't know what the darn thing's about. Today, it's about 30 minutes... Did a brief review of "Nina Kimberly the Merciless," by Christiana Ellis. Kinda funny, but also sad and touching in some ways. Maybe that's just me? Recommended. Featuring "Don't Wake Me Please" by Owen Poteat. Very pretty. Theme music from Kevin MacLeod, as per usual. Comments[2] |
Sun, 17 February 2008 Found on Podcast Pickle I had messages from 14 New Fans! Oh, really? No, not so much, they appear to be fake. What's up with that? Also, my take on "South Coast: A Shaman's Tale from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper," by Nathan Lowell. Good book, kind of "old school," but in a good way. I've missed this kind of writing, and I'm glad to see it come back. Featuring from the "It Doesn't Suck" list, "1913 Arms" from Porcelain Frogs (Elevations). Theme music from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[1] |
Sun, 10 February 2008 After watching "School of Rock," with Jack Black, I had the thought, "Dang, I wish I'd become a teacher." Probably a bad idea for a number of reasons, but even so. By the way, "186,000 Miles per Second" from "The Late" officially Doesn't Suck, now. Congratulations! Theme music from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[0] |
Sun, 3 February 2008 Another story from the Brothers' Grimm, "Hans in Luck." And my opinions on the story, for the little they're worth. I think it went rather well, though. I ran into someone at the Androy the other day who'd apparently heard the last story, and thought "You'd be great with kids." I think I'd be terrible with kids, not that I wouldn't try hard. I'm much more comfortable with microphones & computers & such. Any opinions on how the whole storytelling thing is going, folks? I'm enjoying it, and I do hope you are. Themes: "Continue Life," "Sovereign" and "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[0] |
Mon, 28 January 2008 I finally finished "The Golden Bird." Sorry it took me so long. And I even critiqued the story a bit. Don't know how much sense it makes to do a review of a story several centuries old. That's just how I roll. Themes: "Continue Life," "Sovereign" and "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[0] |
Sat, 26 January 2008 My second attempt at recording with someone else, but my first with the new Zoom H2. Jon B and I rambled on marginally coherently after a night of drinking. I gather some people find such shows entertaining. Anyway, it was cool to try out the new hardware, and I've wanted to record with Jon for a while. Good friend, good D.J. I originally thought, that he might be losing his job, but now I think something different is happening. Oh, well, I'd been drinking, my judgement was impaired. Theme music from Kevin MacLeod Comments[0] |
Wed, 23 January 2008 Some days, you eat the bear, and some days, the bear eats you. Anyway, tried something new... and oddly enough, the episode # was 42. The answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything. And my answer got cut off before I finished. Which is a shame. Because at the end of the show, I explained the answers to every question you have ever asked or will ever ask, but now you missed it, so you're doomed to live in a miasma of confusion and self-doubt. But it's not my fault, it's Libsyn's fault. Unless it's my fault, in which case, it's probably someone else's fault. But not mine. As far as you know, officially. Glad we've got that settled. New Intro! "Continue Life" from Kevin MacLeod. iDSL Feature: "140 Times" from Rock On. Wonder if they'd mind if I used their song as my new show Theme? Comments[0] |
Sun, 20 January 2008 Got the new hardware, so I'm doing something new. Here's a story from the Brother's Grimm Fairytales, called "The Golden Bird." Boy I love telling stories. Gotta do more of that. Theme "Hot Swing," intros and outtros "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod. And, by the way, that's all. Comments[0] |
Thu, 17 January 2008 After 40 episodes, so what is this show about? Well, it's about ten minutes. I could make it about Activism, but I'm not much of an activist. I am inspired by small and random things, of importance only to me, mostly. And after all this time, has the show found an identity? Have I? From the "It Doesn't Suck" List -- Featuring: "12" from halo effect out of Minneapolis. Theme: "Hot Swing," and background "Sovereign" from Kevin MacLeod. Meaningless drivel by Me. Comments[0] |
Sun, 13 January 2008 I've learned from experience that other people can learn from experience. Go figure, huh? I reminisce about my days in Blackthorne Repertory Theatre, which is not a band off in England somewhere. Well, it is, but this ain't them, they ain't Repertory. As far as I know. Finished "Children of the Old Stars," by David Lee Summers. Looking forward to the next book in what's turning out to be an excellent series. Started "South Coast," by Nathan Lowell; good so far. GBIDSList Featuring: "(So far) Off Broadway," by Jon James. Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod Comments[1] |
Fri, 11 January 2008 I'm in discussions to host the next season of another podcast, "Five Minute Memoir," the concept of which I love. But I'm still not convinced it's something I should do. Probably. Maybe? I dunno. Sure, yeah. Hmmm...Featuring from the "It Doesn't Suck" list: "100 Years" by 21 Sheridan Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod. Comments[0] |

Mon, 7 January 2008 I am supposed to be getting One Big Thing for Christmas -- a bit late -- which I hope can be a Samson Zoom H2 Handy Recorder. Why do I want one so badly? Cause for me, this is "an official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time." (Jean Sheperd, "A Christmas Story") Wish I'd done the Web search before recording the show, I coulda used that line. These days we have Blogs and Podcasts to hint at Christmas gifts. :-) Featuring, from my GarageBand "It Doesn't Suck" list: "(last of the) Rockstars" by "Molly Gets Confused." Didn't manage to do the daily thing, so far, but I'm still trying. From Podiobooks: The 3rd book of the "7th Son" Trilogy is done, "Serve It Cold" is done. I Finished "Brave Men Run" last week. Just downloaded "South Coast," and a number of others. And my next project, eventually, I hope. Why I listen to "Polyamory Weekly," and you should, too, maybe. Probably. And no New Years' Eve for me. Sun, 9 December 2007 A little politics, a little survival, a little song, a little dance, a little seltzer in my pants... And from my "It Doesn't Suck" list: "I Love You" from Chris Rowe "I Remember U" and "State of the Industry" from Vherbal (Oh, figured out why those ended up near the beginning of the list -- the quote marks!) Theme as usual, "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod Comments[0] |
Mon, 26 November 2007 I've been doing a lot of podcast and "podiobook" listening lately. Not a lot of recording, because of I've had a lot of technical failures, which continue to happen. Did reviews of podiobooks I've listened to, from Podiobooks.com: "The Failed Cities Monologues" by Matt Wallace The "Heaven" series by Mur Lafferty The "7th Son" series by J.C. Hutchins "Serve It Cold" by Ronnie Blackwell A couple more tunes from my "It Doesn't Suck" list: "Conspiracy Theory" and "Falling Apart" by Vherbal Plus "Tees" from Tantra And a couple of new tunes from an old friend: "Something To Do With You" and "Hard to Get The Blues" from Owen Poteat Theme "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod Comments[0] |
Sun, 28 October 2007 Fear, bullies, and doing the right thing, even when it's probably a Bad Idea. Music from The Raventones, and from Owen Poteat. Sat, 6 October 2007 Okay, here's the deal. Did this show with my friend, Boo, a young lady I've mentioned previously. Three things to note: We spent some time discussing Curse Words, in detail and specifically. If you're offended by "foul language," you might want to skip this one. You'll note that I was rambling and incoherent. Probably a Stress thing, possibly an Asperger thing, perhaps an Us thing, but definitely a Me thing. Doing new stuff kinda removed the comfort level I've achieved with the show. Perhaps that's also a Good thing. Third thing. I wanted to show her what I do, and what it's like. I think she enjoyed herself. What's next for me and for us? Well, she said she may do it again sometime. We'll see. She may also start her own, and if she wants to (you listening, Boo?) I'll help her out. She can obviously speak for herself. We didn't and don't always agree on what's appropriate. But it was still kinda cool. Anyway, comments are encouraged. Thanks for listening. No music this time, just the Theme I got from Kevin MacLeod's site. Comments[0] |
Tue, 2 October 2007 This episode kinda sucks, but it puts me back in the game. Who was it said everyone has a million words of, er, junk to write, and you have to write all that before you get to the good stuff? Anyway, this goes against my million-word quota. Yay me. By the way, I think I finally convinced Libsyn to use the correct audio file for this. Here's hoping. Mon, 13 August 2007 A carefully and precisely planned show, detail by detail, all of which went wrong. Luckily, no cute little bunnies were harmed in the making of this podcast. You have the privilege of hearing what's left. Featured: Angie Browning & Geoff McArthur By the way, she doesn't sound like Olivia Newton-John, as I said, but she has moments reminiscent of Crystal Gayle, if you listen. Sun, 29 July 2007 Nothing happened. Didn't sing kareoke, didn't get trained as a Kareoke Dude, didn't win the Powerball. Did get a nice note from Owen Poteat, so I used some more of his music: http://www.garageband.com/artist/OwenPoteat or look at his home website: http://www.owenpoteat.com. Probably no ad support, no Podcast Awards. But I rambled on about some other stuff.Theme: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod at http://www.incompetech.com. Comments[0] |

Mon, 25 June 2007 I wanted to introduce you to the work of a new friend of mine. By the end of the show you'll know why I chose the title. All the Raventones music is used by permission of TR Kelley. More music, more info, and albums and whatnot, available from their website: http://www.raventones.com/home.html TR Kelley's Blog is at http://trkelley.blogspot.com Theme music "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod, http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/ All errors and omissions are mine. Sat, 16 June 2007 Yes, I borrowed the title from the Phil Collins song. He can have it back now. Anyway, people find it hard to believe that the Host of an Internationally Syndicated Talk Program (wink wink nudge nudge) would have so much trouble understanding people. But I can give you some examples. By the way, the content is moderately "racey," but there's no foul language necessary, thanks. Sun, 3 June 2007 Catching up on all the topics I was going to discuss, but never did. Till now. And I discussed changing the name of the show, but didn't do that. Exactly. Theme "Hot Swing," Background "Meditation Impromptu" from Kevin MacLeod http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/ Comments[1] |

Sun, 20 May 2007 I've been thinking about having kids -- it'll probably never happen, but I can dream, can't I? By the way, I missed a good Boy's Name: Jefferson Smith, from "Mr Smith Goes to Washington." Make that my second favorite. Mon, 14 May 2007 In looking at why my Midlife Crisis is still ongoing, I concluded that I work every day to get money so I can work every day. Imagine my joy. BTW, I mentioned my curiosity about why Episode Six turned out to be so popular. In my websearches, I found two sites in particular that might have been where people were headed when they ended up here. Here's a link to that podcast I mentioned: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/amidlifecrisis/ And that other one I mentioned, which is apparently a blog, not a podcast: http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/index.php?automodule=blog&blogid=511 Go figure, huh? Sat, 31 March 2007 THIS LAST WEEKEND, ONE OF MY KAREOKE D.J'S, JON B., ASKED IF HE COULD SING A SONG THAT I'VE BEEN DOING FOR A LONG WHILE, A SONG CALLED "GOODNIGHT, SAIGON." BILLY JOEL WROTE THIS FOR HIS FRIENDS WHO HAD TO GO OFF TO FIGHT IN VIETNAM. AS BILLY JOEL PUT IT, "THEY LEFT AS BOYS, AND CAME BACK AS OLD MEN. AND THEY WERE THE LUCKY ONES, BECAUSE MANY OF THEM DIDN'T COME BACK AT ALL." IT BROKE MY HEART TO GIVE IT UP, BUT IT'S JOHN'S SONG NOW. IT'S NOT MY SONG. REALLY, IT NEVER WAS MINE. SO WHY DID I SING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE? I WAS WAY TOO YOUNG TO HAVE TO GO TO VIETNAM. WHY WOULD I FEEL SO STRONGLY ABOUT A SONG ABOUT THAT WAR?Theme Music "Hot Swing," Background "Meditation Impromptu" by Kevin MacLeod http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/ Image from http://www.usmemorialday.org/gallery.html Comments[2] |
Sun, 25 March 2007 I blame a lot on My Unfortunate Condition. But, to be fair, a lot of what has happened to me has been my own fault, and it's about time I said so. Theme Music: "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/ The featured song at the end is "Dreaming My Life Away" by Al Carmichael. I got it from Garage Band, at http://www.garageband.com/artist/betteroffdud Comments[0] |
Sun, 18 March 2007 I tend to believe everybody, though I know I shouldn't. Which means either something bad happened this week, or didn't. The theme music is still "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod (http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/). I re-engineered a bit, hope it doesn't blast you out of your chair anymore. Oh, and I ended with a feature song I thought appropriate, and I think you'll like, and if you liked it, here's how to get a high-quality copy for yourself. Download "Angels Cry" (mp3)

Sun, 11 March 2007 I'VE DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND HAVE MY MID-LIFE CRISIS NOW. I GATHER THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS I'M SUPPOSED TO DO AT SOME TIME. BUT DOING THE MATH, I DECIDED THE PAST FEW TIMES IT'S COME TO MIND, IT WAS TOO EARLY. Music "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod Comments[0] |
Sat, 3 March 2007 I'M A READER. I'M NOT JUST AN OCCASIONAL READER. WHENEVER I LEAVE THE HOUSE, I HAVE A BOOK WITH ME. WHENEVER I'M TAKING A BREAK FROM DOING SOMETHING ELSE, I'M READING. SOMETIMES WHEN I'M DOING SOMETHING ELSE, I'M READING.
Got my first audio comment, from Rich from the "Bloodthirsty Vegetarians" podcast, which I added at the end of the show. Always nice to be appreciated; haven't done this long, so I sometimes wonder if I'm doing it right... Music "Meditation Impromptu" by Kevin MacLeod Comments[0] |
Wed, 28 February 2007 IT'S A SNOW DAY! YAY! NOT MUCH OF A SNOW DAY, GRANTED, SINCE IT'S SUNDAY AND NOT A SCHOOL DAY. BUT IT'LL JUST HAVE TO DO. AS A KID, I USED TO LOVE SNOW DAYS. LISTENING TO KDAL ON THE AM RADIO IN THE MORNING WITH THE LATEST WEATHER FORECASTS AND SCHOOL CLOSINGS, HOPING MINE WAS NEXT ON THE LIST. STAYING HOME, CAN'T GO TO SCHOOL BECAUSE THE SCHOOL BUSES AREN'T RUNNING. AND IF WE GOT TO SCHOOL, WE MIGHT NOT MAKE IT HOME. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY, RIGHT MOM?

Wed, 14 February 2007 This is the easiest and hardest episode I've done. The easiest, because I just told the story, rather than writing a script and editing and such. The hardest, because, well... listen to it, you'll know why. Music: "Meditation Impromptu" by Kevin MacLeod Comments[1] |
Sat, 10 February 2007 My continuing adventures -- and why they really aren't that bad, exactly. DIGITALLY REMASTERED! With music "Continue Life" by Kevin MacLeod (a much better musical choice, I think) Comments[0] |
Mon, 5 February 2007 IT'S RATHER SAD, REALLY, ALL THE THINGS I THINK I KNOW, BUT I REALLY DON'T. MAYBE IT'S JUST THAT I'M GETTING OLD. MAYBE I'VE LEARNED SO MUCH OVER SO MANY YEARS THAT IT'S ALL JUST A MUSH OF RANDOM IMPRESSIONS. TOO MUCH TV, TOO MUCH RADIO, TOO MUCH INTERNET, TOO MANY COMMERCIAL JINGLES I REMEMBER FROM WHEN I WAS A KID, TOO MUCH EVERYTHING. TOO MANY YEARS. DIGITALLY REMASTERED! (wink wink nudge nudge) With music "Sovereign" by Kevin MacLeod Comments[0] |
Sun, 4 February 2007 This is my very first podcast, and it's edited within an inch of it's life. It's really not that bad, considering... By the way, updated this with music. The piece is "Meditation Impromptu," by Kevin MacLeod. Kevin's got a website of royalty-free music, Creative Commons liscensed Attribution. Here's the attribution, hope I did this right.. And it's a beautiful piece. Better than my aged, raggedy, too-much-smoking voice deserves. Comments[0] |

I like to watch NASCAR racing, but I only understand parts of it.

Too bad I'd already done "Gang Aft Agley."

Part 1 -- Simplicity
For an entire show, I refrain from Singing to myself, or to you.
Now with New and Improved, Shorter intro! (BTW, you could call this "Infinite Diversity II," but I haven't talked to TR lately...)

Very little Karaoke, mostly a podcast about the podcast. And pretty young blond ladies.
Part 1 -- The Soul of a New Machine
By the way, finally got the Story feed, "Stories from the Hiber-Nation," started. Dunno if any of y'all had been looking for that. It's on a separate feed, so you wouldn't see it in the regular stuff.
People believe all kinds of things, mostly because other people believe them, too. And then there's the fish.
