Chapter 2 - OF THE LIBERTY OF THOUGHT AND DISCUSSION. Part 4 of 4 "In politics, again, it is almost a commonplace, that a party of order or stability, and a party of progress or reform, are both necessary elements of a healthy state of political life; until the one or the other shall have so enlarged its mental grasp as to be a party equally of order and of progress, knowing and distinguishing what is fit to be preserved from what ought to be swept away." Chapter 2 - OF THE LIBERTY OF THOUGHT AND DISCUSSION. Part 3 "To abate the force of these considerations, an enemy of free discussion may be supposed to say, that there is no necessity for mankind in general to know and understand all that can be said against or for their opinions by philosophers and theologians. That it is not needful for common men to be able to expose all the misstatements or fallacies of an ingenious opponent." I have never made much of a fuss about asking for donations for the podcast. This may have had some impact on the fact that I have only gotten one since I've been doing these. Turns out I came up a bit short this payperiod. Libsyn is asking Paypal for the "rent" on the website. Paypal is asking the bank where my paycheck is automatically deposited. And there's nothing left in the bank. So now I've been hit by overdraft fees, twice so far. Not your fault, not your responsibility. But ya know, if the needed $24 were in my Paypal account, the bleeding would stop, at least for the moment. So I'm asking. If you've ever considered donating to help me with these projects... now would be a very good time. Thanks. Griz Category:general

Chapter 2 - OF THE LIBERTY OF THOUGHT AND DISCUSSION. Part 2 "Aware of the impossibility of defending the use of punishment for restraining irreligious opinions, by any argument which will not justify Marcus Antoninus, the enemies of religious freedom, when hard pressed, occasionally accept this consequence, and say, with Dr. Johnson, that the persecutors of Christianity were in the right ..." Chapter 2 - OF THE LIBERTY OF THOUGHT AND DISCUSSION. Part 1 "... Let us suppose, therefore, that the government is entirely at one with the people, and never thinks of exerting any power of coercion unless in agreement with what it conceives to be their voice. But I deny the right of the people to exercise such coercion, either by themselves or by their government. The power itself is illegitimate. Chapter 1 - INTRODUCTORY "The subject of this Essay is not the so-called Liberty of the Will, so unfortunately opposed to the misnamed doctrine of Philosophical Necessity; but Civil, or Social Liberty: the nature and limits of the power which can be legitimately exercised by society over the individual." Yes, this is my 125 episode, and as of tomorrow it'll be four years since I started. Yay. :) A GOOD DAY!. I got a call for a short Temp assignment, which happens to be working for a temp agency that's working for another company that's working for our Public Radio folks. Only three degrees of separation. Wow. Sure will be nice to be working again. Oh, and I found my lanyard for my glasses. And you should care because.... ? Started recording from practice scripts I found at the Edge Studios website. Recorded 35, and put a couple in this podcast. What do you think? Talked about doing a demo disk, if I can make up my mind what should be on there. Eventually I'll get it. 1-800-COLLECT Demo I've always started with seriously Entry Level jobs, with not much in the way of qualifications. Broadcasting and voiceover requires coming in the door with talent and skills. Maybe I have them, but I find it hard to ask for that sort of job. Very new to me. 1-800-OK-CABLE Demo Four years. Wow. I could do one for you, too, ya know. Just sayin'. Call me. Did a few other folks, too. Here are a couple examples: The Rejoiner I didn't do for "Evo@11." :) Rejoiner for Annie and the Awkward Cakeman on B.T.R. Rejoiner for Boise and Beyond podcast Piteous whining. IDSL-ish tune for the day.... A little "Face Funk" called "Snacks" from The Twin Cats' new album, "Thick."

"Eugenics and Other Evils," by G.K. Chesterton, published in 1922. Chapter 8 -- The End of the Household Gods: "The only place where it is possible to find an echo of the mind of the English masses is either in conversation or in comic songs. The latter are obviously the more dubious; but they are the only things recorded and quotable that come anywhere near it." Chapter 9 -- A Short Chapter: "Round about the year 1913 Eugenics was turned from a fad to a fashion. Then, if I may so summarise the situation, the joke began in earnest. The organising mind which we have seen considering the problem of slum population, the popular material and the possibility of protests, felt that the time had come to open the campaign. ... But as a matter of fact this is not the first chapter but the last. And this must be a very short chapter, because the whole of this story was cut short. A very curious thing happened. England went to war. This would in itself have been a sufficiently irritating interruption in the early life of Eugenette, and in the early establishment of Eugenics. But a far more dreadful and disconcerting fact must be noted. With whom, alas, did England go to war? England went to war with the Superman in his native home." Comments[0]
